The last straw was when Adobe converted everything to Creative Cloud application subscriptions, effectively holding everyone's Adobe data hostage (fail to pay your subscription fee, and good luck using your files anymore!) So I resuscitated two older macs, maxxed their memories and updated their HDs, realizing that I really didn't need any more applications or cloud subscriptions I already have perfectly fine licensed earlier versions of dozens of all the major applications I expect to ever need, and I don't have to pay any subscriptions to use them. Along with that, it became clear that Microsoft's operating system itself could no longer be trusted to maintain security, as they introduced Windows 10 crammed with unwanted telemetry. Then, the Great Data Grab Conspiracy began to force every user to store their personal and professional data on someone else's computer in the Cloud. I re-purchased all new applications and things went fine for a few years. I was all-mac from the late 1990s until 2009 when an employment change drove me to Windows.
